About 32 in 1

32 games in 1 cartridge was 1988 released and is highly common in Europe. Popular Atari 2600 games of the sports- and shootergenre was put into one cartridge. This was a cart that was released in PAL format in Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Most were the pack in game with the Atari 2600 in the UK and Atari 7800 in Australia and New Zealand but it was also released as a boxed separate game for the Atari 2600. A different game was selected every time the Atari 2600 or Atari 7800 was turned on.

Not a 7800 game at all: a PAL-region multicart of 2600 games in a 7800-era package, for completists of Atari's catalogue only.

32 in 1 turns up in lists of 7800 releases, but the cartridge itself holds 2600 versions of its games. AtariAge describes it as a relabeled 2600 multicart, sold only in PAL territories and recorded for Australia. Nothing on it takes advantage of the 7800's graphics chip.

The library lists Atari Corporation as developer and publisher, with a 1988 date and the catalogue number CX 26163. Wikipedia's article says only that it is PAL-only and compatible with the 7800. Little else is documented about what the 32 games are or how the compilation was assembled, so there is not much to review.

How it was made

AtariAge's record treats it as a relabeled 2600 32-in-1 cartridge whose games are all 2600 versions, which is why it is not a true 7800 title.

Worth knowing

  • From the 7800 manual. A multicart of 32 games; toggling the console power switch on and off steps through the games in order, and Reset starts the one shown.
  • From the 7800 manual. Individual games are 1-2 players (e.g. Miniature Golf).

Before you buy

Buy this for the oddity, not the play. It was sold PAL-only, so don't expect it to behave on a stock North American 7800, and the games on it are 2600 versions anyway. AtariAge rates it Rare+, and no loose or boxed prices are tracked for it, so ask for photos of the cartridge, label and any box before paying a premium. Do not confuse it with a native 7800 cartridge in a collection count.
