The most valuable cartridge in the 2600 library, and a purchase where provenance matters more than the game or the label.
Air Raid is a 1982 shoot 'em up and the only game Men-A-Vision ever released. It came in a blue T-handle cartridge with a picture of flying saucers attacking a futuristic city, and distribution was extremely limited. That combination of a one-off publisher, an unusual shell and almost no copies in circulation is why collectors chase it.
Its sale history is unusually well recorded. The record copies were boxed or complete rather than sealed: the first known complete copy, with its manual, sold at auction in October 2012, and a loose cart that turned up at a Fort Worth Goodwill sold on eBay in 2021. No sealed copy has been recorded, so treat any listing that claims one with great suspicion.

Worth knowing
- Boxed, never sealed. The headline Air Raid sales were a boxed copy without a manual in 2010 and the first known complete copy in 2012. No sealed Air Raid has ever been recorded.
Before you buy
Highest risk tier on the platform. No sold-as-original fake has been documented, but one AtariAge collector reports that genuine copies have EPROM boards and non-laminated paper labels with straight edges, and another collector in the same thread disputed that. Either way, the usual label-corner and board checks prove little here. The shell is one fixed point: genuine copies are blue T-handle carts. Beyond that, buy only with documented provenance (where the copy surfaced, its auction history) or third-party authentication.
