Atari's arcade cop game, ported by Quicksilver, and one of the odder premises in the library.
Quicksilver Software developed the 1991 conversion of an Atari Games coin-op that a contemporary reviewer called “a satirical game of cat and mouse…err, cops and robbers”. You patrol the roads hitting a ticket quota off drunks, speeders and litterbugs while chasing the actual felons, and you get fired if you miss it. The same reviewer’s verdict was that the amazing part is Atari shoehorned the entire theme onto a handheld at all.
Single-player only, never re-released, and one of the cheapest cartridges on the platform. A bureaucratic comedy premise has aged into being genuinely funny.
What the press said at the time
“This is a good translation of the arcade game and the voices are extremely well done. The game play is very repetitive and leaves much to be desired. The graphics are only average as Lynx games go. A.P.B. on the Lynx isn't what I expected.”
