A thin three-game compilation that critics dismissed in 1996, and a cheap cart today.

Arcade Classics is a 1996 Sega compilation, developed by Al Baker & Associates, of three old Atari games: Pong, Missile Command and Centipede. Each comes in two versions, the original and an updated one with redrawn graphics.

Next Generation found it embarrassingly short on content and thought the updated versions changed little beyond the most basic cosmetics. GamePro called it a humorous reminder of the industry's origins but no more than a 4-meg curiosity in 1996, and pointed to Sega's six-in-one 6-Pak for more fun with old games.

What the press said at the time

“The graphics and sounds are true to the originals, which means they’re primitive.”

— GamePro, August 1996

How the Sega Genesis version differs

The Genesis cartridge is a 1996 Sega compilation of Pong, Missile Command and Centipede, each with a revised version; Next Generation said the revised versions add only cosmetic graphics changes.

Before you buy

Among US carts it sits below the middle. The European cart usually costs nearly twice as much as the US one, loose or complete. A cardboard-box edition is priced separately from the plastic-case copy, and the complete box copy usually costs more. A complete US copy means the case, cartridge and manual.
