An early Sega golf game that is cheap to own and plays well enough, though PGA Tour Golf beat it.

Arnold Palmer Tournament Golf was made and published by Sega. Japan got it first on 9 September 1989 as Ozaki Naomichi no Super Masters, with North America following in October 1989 and PAL territories in January 1991. Palmer's name was added only for the Western release: he appears on the box and title screen but is not mentioned in the game.

Video Games & Computer Entertainment described colorful graphics, with custom courses built from over 25 of the world's best holes, and wind, water hazards and sand traps. Sega Pro rated it among the early Mega Drive greats and called it an impressive simulation, though it said PGA Tour Golf plays a lot better.

“This is a pretty decent golf sim. Featuring a variety of options, excellent graphics (the 3D viewpoint and the animation on the large golfer sprite are both superb) and a very tough course indeed, Arnold Palmer’s Golf will appeal to golf and sports simulation fans”

— MegaTech, September 1992

Before you buy

Among US carts it is one of the cheapest. The European cart usually costs more than the US one in loose condition, though a complete copy costs about the same. The Japanese cart (Super Masters) usually costs more and has a different cartridge shape.
