A paint program on a cartridge, cheap and mostly of curiosity value.
Art Alive! is a drawing and painting program rather than a game, released by Sega for the Genesis. It came out in North America in 1991, in Europe in March 1992 and in Japan on 27 March 1992. Western Technologies and FarSight Technologies developed it.
What the press said at the time
“This is a perfectly different cart. Totally non-violent, yet even the youngest of gamers will go for it”
“I expected great things from Sega’s first Edutainment package. Sadly, I left it feeling a little disappointed, with a screen that looked like an explosion in a spaghetti factory!”
“This wouldn’t even interest anyone who likes art. Best left on the shelf eh?”
Before you buy
Among US carts it sits well below the middle. The European cart usually costs a little less than the US one for a loose copy and about the same complete, while a Japanese cart costs less loose and noticeably more complete. The Japanese cartridge is a different shape from a Western one. A complete US copy means the case, cartridge and manual.
