A two-player artillery game from Xonox, best known on the 2600 for its double-ended cartridges.

Artillery Duel began on the Bally Astrocade, written by John Perkins. Xonox published the 2600 port, programmed by Mike Schwartz, in North America in November 1983, with a PAL release in 1984.

On the 2600, Xonox also put the game on double-ended cartridges, paired with Chuck Norris Superkicks, Ghost Manor or Spike's Peak. Each end of those carts holds a different game.

What the press said at the time

Computer Entertainer Vol. 2 No. 10January 1984Graphics ★★ · Play-Action ★★

“This is a game of planning and deliberation, not fast action, that will only appeal to some players. Graphics are extremely plain and rather blocky.”

— Computer Entertainer, January 1984

Computer Entertainer rated graphics first and play action second, from four symbols (excellent) to one (poor) — stars in most years, diamonds in 1986–87 — comparing each game only with other games for the same system.

Before you buy

Low risk. No reproductions are documented. Check whether the listing is the single Artillery Duel cart or one of the Xonox double-enders, which pair it with Chuck Norris Superkicks, Ghost Manor or Spike's Peak; they are different items, so ask for photos of both ends. Complete copies cost several times the loose price, so the box and manual carry much of the value.
