Japanese video game company SNK began developing and publishing video games in 1978. SNK's first video games were released on dedicated arcade boards throughout the 1980s. In the 1990s and early 2000s, most of their games were released on their proprietary hardware, including the Neo Geo and Neo Geo Pocket Color. Big Bang Pro Wrestling has a real grappling system rather than a button-mash, and a better reputation among people who have actually played it than its obscurity suggests. It arrived in November 2000, five months after SNK had already abandoned the West, so it was never going to be localised.
Linked, it simply pits two wrestlers against each other — no trading, no extras. It is on NEOGEO POCKET COLOR SELECTION Vol. 2 for the Nintendo Switch, which is the first time most Western players have had access to it.
Before you buy
Japanese text throughout, and the menus matter in a game with this much grappling depth, so the Switch version is the sensible choice unless you specifically want the cartridge. Priced high enough that the label is worth a proper look.
