A speedboat shooter that critics did not enjoy, now priced a little above the middle.
Bimini Run is a third-person shooter for the Genesis, developed by Microsmiths and published by Nuvision Entertainment in North America in February 1991. Up to two players travel across a wide scrolling environment on objective-based missions, piloting a speedboat through enemy-infested waters.
Reviews were poor. Mean Machines called it a naff 3D shoot 'em up with graphics that are not much cop and gameplay that gets tedious after a session. Sega Pro, in an import review, found it a bit of a laugh at first before it turned repetitive and boring.
What the press said at the time
| Sega Pro Issue 36 | September 1994 | 57% |
| Electronic Gaming Monthly | 7/7/7/7 | |
| Raze | 78% |
“Considering overall playability, this is one of the few uniquely original Genesis games around. What faults there are, though, are glaring.”
“Do you love shoot-em-ups? Do you love speed boats? You’ve just found your perfect game.”
“A shoot-'em-up that tries to impress with a scenario other than outer-space. Is a bit of a laugh for a B while, but soon becomes repetitive and boring.”
Undated scores are from the review table in the game's Wikipedia article, limited to reviews of the Genesis version.
Before you buy
