Boulder Dash on Wikipedia
Boulder Dash is a maze-based puzzle video game released in 1984 by First Star Software for Atari 8-bit computers. It was created by Canadian developers Peter Liepa and Chris Gray. The player controls Rockford, who tunnels through dirt to collect diamonds. Boulders and other objects remain fixed until the dirt beneath them is removed, then they fall and become a hazard. Puzzles are designed around collecting diamonds without being crushed and exploiting the interactions between objects. The game's name is a pun on balderdash.

A Telegames-published port of First Star's puzzle game, genuine but later than the Coleco era.
Micro Lab developed the ColecoVision Boulder Dash for Micro Fun, after First Star licensed the game to Micro Lab for conversions including the ColecoVision. Computer Entertainer reported in 1984 that the cartridge had slipped, and Electronic Games listed it as coming for the ColecoVision that October, but it reached players only as a Telegames release. It is among the six Telegames exclusives.
No period review of the ColecoVision version is on record, so how it compares to the 2600 or computer versions is undocumented.
How the ColecoVision version differs
Computer Entertainer reported that the ColecoVision version, in development at Micro Lab, had been bumped.

Worth knowing
- From the ColecoVision manual. Only caves 1, 6, 11 and the last cave can be chosen as a starting cave on difficulty levels 1 to 3; levels 4 and 5 must start at cave 1.
- From the ColecoVision manual. Holding the joystick button while pushing the stick lets Rockford dig or push an adjacent object without moving into its space.
- From the ColecoVision manual. Each player starts with 3 chances and gains a bonus try, shown by the tunnels shimmering, every 500 points.
Before you buy
The genuine Telegames release is the 1987 one in a green plastic clamshell with an insert sheet, so a bare cardboard box is a warning. One owner reported a genuine Telegames shell containing a Turbo board, and collectors report a high failure rate, so test before paying. A poor-quality mini-cart reissue has also been reported. It needs only a standard controller.
