About Bubble and Squeak

Bubble and Squeak starts off similarly to many other platform games. Controlling a bald child, you move through a scrolling array of ledges, avoiding contact with nasties who release coins when shot. There are hidden areas to find as well. Halfway through the first of the 30 levels, you meet Squeak and the full nature of the game starts. Squeak is a blue alien, who must also be guided through the levels. As he can't jump as high as you, he must sometimes be instructed to wait while you flick a switch or otherwise solve the puzzle of how to guide him through. If you stand on top of Squeak you can be launched into an extra-high jump.

A cheerful two-character platformer that sits a little above the middle among US carts and costs several times as much in Europe.

Bubble and Squeak is a platformer in which you control a human boy named Bubble together with his recent alien acquaintance, Squeak. Brief underwater scrolling-shooter bonus sections separate the platform levels. Sunsoft published the Genesis version under license from Audiogenic, in North America in March 1994 and in Europe in January 1995. Matt Furniss is credited with the Genesis music.

Sega Pro was warm about the Mega Drive game, praising its cheerful tunes and imaginative graphics, its teamwork and the surprises that pop up on every level, and compared its look to James Pond 3. Game Players, reviewing the Genesis version in May 1994, said it packed a punch in graphics, control and fun.

Before you buy

Among US carts it sits a little above the middle. The European cart usually costs several times as much as the US one, loose or complete, so the US cart is the sensible buy. A complete US copy means the case, cartridge and manual.
