About Coconuts

In CocoNuts Stanley the intrepid jungle explorer is under attack from Coco the monkey! Coco is up in the trees throwing coconuts at Stanley. You control Stanley and need to dodge the incoming coconuts. You begin the game equipped with a helmet and an umbrella to protect yourself. Each time you are hit by a coconut, you lose one of these items. You may also regain an item by scoring enough points. The game ends when you have nothing left to protect yourself and a coconut hits you. Of course, the longer you can last in the game, the faster it becomes!

Telesys's debut dodging game, praised for its look and panned for its lack of depth, and priced accordingly.

You play Stanley I. Presume, a jungle explorer dodging coconuts thrown by a mischievous monkey. Telesys published it for the 2600 in October 1982 as one of its first games, alongside Fast Food. Telesys vice president Jack Woodman created it and Jim Rupp designed it.

Contemporary reviewers sometimes liked the graphics but criticized its thin gameplay and difficulty. It is a footnote today, though Telesys did promote it by sending purple pickles and full-size used tires to retailers and distributors.

How it was made

Created by Telesys vice president Jack Woodman and designed by Jim Rupp. Released in North America in October 1982; there was no PAL release.

What the press said at the time

Electronic Fun with Computers & Games Vol. 1 No. 6April 19831½ joysticks

“There is essentially nothing whatever to this game. … The game moves at such a slow pace to begin with, the greatest challenge is to stay awake. … My advice is to stand still and get the whole thing over with as fast as possible.”

— Electronic Fun with Computers & Games, April 1983

“While these two games are cute, they'll probably hold your interest only for a short period of time.”

— JoyStik, April 1983

Electronic Fun rated games out of four joysticks.
