A solid late EA Sports college football game for the Genesis, cheap and fun with friends.
College Football USA 97 is the Genesis edition of EA Sports' college football game, developed by Tiburon Entertainment and High Score Entertainment, and released in North America in October 1996. Its cover athlete is former Nebraska quarterback Tommie Frazier. In the third quarter of 1996 EA Sports ran a College Football '97 tour, visiting top colleges and holding a competition on the Genesis version.
For more than two players, Sega Retro lists the cart as working with EA's 4 Way Play.
What the press said at the time
| Game Informer Issue 41 | September 1996 | 6.75 |
“better off with discounted older editions. A purchase warrants a trial or rental.”
Before you buy
Among US carts it sits below the middle, so it is cheap. The cartridge keeps its saves in a battery, so check that a save holds; a replaced battery is a normal repair, not a sign of a fake. EA's 4 Way Play and Sega's first Team Player do not run each other's games; Sega's later Team Player (MK-1647) runs both in its EXTRA mode.
