A rare Bit Corp. platform game from Europe that Telegames later pressed in North America, and a title where checking the label matters.

Cosmic Crisis is a platform game from 1983, published in Europe by Bit Corp. Wikipedia's list of ColecoVision games records a North American release in 1986 through Telegames, as a re-release of the European cartridge.

Almost nothing is documented about how it plays or how it was received, and no period reviews survive in the sources, so this entry stays short. What is known is that it is one of four titles in the library from Bit Corp., a Taiwanese company whose other products include the Personal Arcade console.

Worth knowing

  • From the ColecoVision manual. You trap demons by digging a hole with the left side button and filling it with the right side button right after a demon falls in; fighting them head-on is dangerous.
  • From the ColecoVision manual. Demons that escape twice grow stronger and change color from white to red to blue; red demons perish only after falling two floors, blue after three.
  • From the ColecoVision manual. Only four failures are allowed in each scene.

Before you buy

Two versions exist, the Bit Corp. original and the later Telegames pressing, and the ColecoVisionADAM.com museum list marks the original as Extremely Rare and the Telegames pressing as Very Rare. Look-alike confusion is a real risk with these Bit Corp. titles, so ask which version you are buying and request photos of the label and shell. Because European carts are involved, check the region. No loose or boxed prices are tracked, so a thin market means any price is a negotiation. It plays with the standard controller.
