About Crusader of Centy
Millions of years ago, heinous creatures that lurked in the shadows and darkness that blanketed the planet inhabited the Earth. When light finally broke through, only a few beasts were able to survive by burrowing into deep caverns. Over time, they multiplied, evolved, and patiently waited for the right time to emerge and rule the Earth once again. You are Corona, and you've just celebrated your 14th birthday. By law of the king, you must now go seek out these creatures of the dark and destroy them. As you travel in search of your destiny, you'll make animal allies that will prove invaluable on your quest. Each level will offer mind-bending puzzles and challenges that will help you get one step closer to completing your mission.

A charming overhead action-adventure with Zelda in its blood, and a US cart that costs far more than the European one.
Crusader of Centy was made by Nextech and published by Sega and Atlus. It was Ragnacenty in Japan (17 June 1994) and Soleil in Europe (10 February 1995); North America got it in March 1995. You play Corona, a boy who turns 14 and must inherit his late father's sword to fight the monsters threatening humanity. Play is overhead, with sword fighting and puzzles, and animal companions grant abilities that open previously blocked paths.
Next Generation gave it three stars out of five and likened it closely to Zelda. Gamefan in November 1994 called it a joyful game and noted it was the second game from the team behind Ranger-X.

“There's plenty of gome in here ond even with the essential battery back-up, you'll be at it for weeks. … A top-grade RPG that is highly recommended to experienced adventurers.”

Before you buy
Among US carts this is one of the priciest, and the risk of a fake is high. Reproductions sell complete for a fraction of the price of an original, and some do not save. Sega Retro records Chinese and Russian bootlegs of the game as well. The notch in a shell and a board photo are the checks that matter: a Western cart has no notch, and for a copy at this price you should compare a board photo with the board listed on this page. The real cartridge keeps its saves in a battery, so test a save, and remember that a replaced battery is a normal repair. The European cart (Soleil) and the Japanese cart (Ragnacenty) both usually cost far less than the US one; the Japanese cartridge has a different shape.
