About Dahna: Megami Tanjou

There lived a wealthy family whose heirs were two daughters: Regine and Dahna. These two sisters were born with a strange magic that could enable them to summon the elements and other impossible things; it was this magic that many within the spiritual underworld lusted after, particularly Regine whose powers grew stronger with age. On Dahna's seventh birthday, the sisters' parents were murdered in a violent kidnapping attempt, but the wreckage separated the sisters and Dahna escaped. Dahna hid in secrecy, but eventually took shelter in a nearby village where she honed her magic and combat abilities under the guidance of the village sorcerer Magh. Ten years later, a mysterious invasion force led by an evil sorceress attacked her village and kidnapped Magh, prompting Dahna on her first battle.

A Japan-only action platformer with a warrior heroine, and one of the pricier Japanese carts.

Dahna: Megami Tanjo is a platform action game that IGS developed and published for the Mega Drive, released in Japan on 20 December 1991. You control the warrior woman of the title, who fights an evil sorceress's forces raiding her village, and the story is told through cutscenes as mythical beasts help her along the way.

How the Sega Genesis version differs

The Mega Drive game was released only in Japan and South Korea.

Before you buy

This is one of the pricier Japan-only carts, well above the middle of the group. Because it is valuable enough to check carefully, ask for a photo of the board. A Japanese cartridge has a notch on the left and ridged edges, so a flat Western-style shell with a notch is a repro sign. Japanese carts are a different shape and do not fit a Western console without an adapter or removing two plastic tabs in its slot.
