A straightforward jungle hack-and-slash that critics found easy and forgettable, now priced above the typical European cart.

Danan: The Jungle Fighter was developed by Whiteboard and published by Sega, released in Europe in January 1991. You play a man raised on the edge of the jungle by an adoptive father, setting out to avenge his death by stopping the resurrection of an alien creature called Gilbas. Play runs through four timed side-scrolling levels, with some exploring for helpful items, until a boss is reached.

Mean Machines called it an enjoyable and straightforward horizontally scrolling hack-and-slash game, with large landscapes but tedious play, since Danan has few moves and the many enemies are not tough. It suggested Rastan fans might like it but would not be challenged for long, and a later re-review described the original reception as lukewarm.

“There are a few niggling points, though. The landscapes are large, but the gameplay is a little bit tedious, since Danan can only do a few moves, and although the baddies are numerous, they're not particularly tough. Rastan fans might like it, but don't expect it to challenge you for long.”
