A late Atari Corp isometric shooter loosely based on Egyptian mythology, cheap and on Atari 50.
Desert Falcon was first announced in 1984 as a planned launch title for the Atari 7800, and Atari Corp. eventually released it on the 7800 and the 2600. Bob Polaro designed the game and programmed the 2600 version. Its diagonally scrolling isometric graphics drew comparisons with Zaxxon.
The 2600 cartridge comes from Atari Corp.'s late period. It is on Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration if you only want to play it.
How it was made
Designed by Bob Polaro, who also programmed the 2600 version. The 2600 list credits development to Bobco and dates the North American release to December 1987.

- Atari 7800. The game was first announced in 1984, under the working names Sphinx and Nile Flyer, as one of the planned launch titles for the Atari 7800. Current Notes called the 7800 cartridge an average arcade game with above-average visual appeal.
- Atari 8-bit. The Atari 8-bit version followed in 1989 in XEGS-styled packaging. ANALOG Computing praised its graphics and sound but called the theme tired, and repeatedly compared it to Zaxxon.
- Atari 8-bit. New Atari User found the scrolling of the Atari 8-bit version less smooth than it could be, but praised the falcon's animation and the use of shadows.
Before you buy
Low risk. Loose carts are inexpensive, and boxed copies cost only a little more. This is a late Atari Corp. release, so it may come in the later universal shell with no dust door and a cheaper gray label. That is normal for carts of this period and not a sign of a reproduction.
