About Elemental Master

Gyra has usurped the throne, and his minions are pillaging and plundering throughout the countryside. The kingdom is doomed unless someone can stop this madness and restore order to the land. You are the ELEMENTAL MASTER, and you're the only person with the power to put an end to Gyra's reign of terror. Harnessing the power of the elements fire, water, wind, and the earth you use them as your very own weapons to fight all that is evil in the world. You'll be up against Gyra's most ruthless henchmen as you battle through eight levels of intense action. But you've got the power of magic on your side, and if you can master the five spells at your disposal, you'll be a nearly unstoppable force. Of course, when you're single-handedly taking on an entire army, the odds are stacked against you. But with the power of the elements, you're the only one who can stop Gyra and his army.

A technically strong Technosoft shooter with a US cart that is among the priciest in its group.

Elemental Master is a top-down scrolling shooter from Technosoft. It came out in Japan on 14 December 1990, and Renovation Products published it in North America in March 1993. The story is set up between the characters Laden and Gyra, and the game mixes wizards, magic and heavy firepower.

Mean Machines called it technically superb, with excellent graphics and sound. Electronic Games rated it complex and playable, with an inspirational score, and a good addition to the Genesis library.

“Hopefully, Elemental Master won't get lost in the shuffle of shooters blazing away on the Genesis.”

— GamePro, May 1993

“You’re on foot and the enemy throw rocks, but even with these novelties, we’re already sick of saying “just another shoot-’em-up” and we’re only at E.”

— Mega, July 1993

Before you buy

Among US carts this is one of the priciest, so ask for a photo of the board and check that the shell matches a Western cart, which has no notch. The Japanese cart usually costs noticeably less than the US one and has a different cartridge shape; a Japanese cartridge fits a Western console only with an adapter or after removing two plastic tabs in its slot.
