About Eli's Ladder

Eli's Ladder is an educational game aimed at children, where math problems need to be solved to help Eli and his crew climb a ladder to his space ship so they can then journey to the Moon. The game included a wall chart and stickers designed to help motivate children progress through the problems. This is one of the rarest Atari 2600 games and apparently saw fairly limited distribution.

A rarity-10 mail-order cartridge that is collected for its scarcity, with very little else on the record.

Simage released Eli's Ladder by mail order in August 1984, late in the 2600's commercial life. Little is documented about the game beyond its publisher and release date, and the price reflects how seldom a copy appears rather than any reputation as a game.

What the press said at the time

Graphics ★★★ · Play-Action ★★★½

“ELI'S LADDER is exactly the sort of program that many parents want for their children: one that clearly teaches needed skills in an entertaining manner.”
— Computer Entertainer, August 1984

Computer Entertainer rated graphics first and play action second, from four symbols (excellent) to one (poor) — stars in most years, diamonds in 1986–87 — comparing each game only with other games for the same system.

Before you buy

Medium risk. No reproductions or sold-as-original fakes are documented, so the risk comes from the value alone. AtariAge rates it 10. Ask for clear photos of the label edges and the board through the dust door, plus whatever provenance the seller has.
