About Facemaker

Everyone's mothers always say "Don't make those faces! They'll stay like that!" But now you have the chance to make the silliest looking faces anyone's ever seen! Choose from a wide assortment of eyes, ears, noses, and mouths. Then make your newly created faces blink, wiggle their ears, wink, or razz you. You can even play a "Simon Says.." type game where your face will do some kind of action and you have to follow along!

A Spinnaker creativity title from the home-computer side of the catalog, with a keypad overlay a complete copy should include.

Spinnaker published Facemaker for the ColecoVision in 1984, and the game came to the console from home computers rather than from arcades. Little is documented about this cartridge beyond its publisher and date, and no period review of the ColecoVision version has been found, so there is not much to add to the details above.

What the press said at the time

Computer Entertainer Vol. 3 No. 2May 1984Graphics ★★½ · Play-Action ★★★

“It's simply more fun to make faces and animate them than to play follow-the-leader with the program.”

— Computer Entertainer, May 1984

Computer Entertainer rated graphics first and play action second, from four symbols (excellent) to one (poor) — diamonds through early 1987, stars after — comparing each game only with other games for the same system.

Before you buy

Facemaker is one of the ColecoVision games that shipped with a keypad overlay, so a complete copy includes it; reproduction overlays exist, so ask whether the overlay is original. It plays with the standard controller and keypad. The price row shows a clear gap between loose and boxed, so the box, manual and overlay carry most of a complete copy's value.
