A roguelike dungeon crawl that period critics found dull, and a cart that sits just above the middle among US carts.
Fatal Labyrinth is a roguelike role-playing game developed and published by Sega, known in Japan as Shi no Meikyuu: Labyrinth of Death. It reached North America and Europe in 1991, with Japan's date being 21 November 1990. Hirokazu Yasuhara designed it, and it shares assets with Dragon Crystal.
Mean Machines Sega, in its Mega Drive games guide, thought both the role-playing and the action sides were weak, calling the first dull and limited and the second slow and boring.
What the press said at the time
| Mean Machines Sega Issue 3 | December 1992 | 51% |
“Fatal Labyrinth isn't the most complex, intense adventure game ever made, but despite some shortcomings it's a nice diversion for a Saturday afternoon.”
“This cross between a scrolling beat 'em up and a role-playing game fails to deliver in both cate gories. The RPG aspect is dull and limited and the slow, boring action fails to offer any thrills and spills.”
Before you buy
Among US carts it sits above the middle. The European loose cart usually costs noticeably less than the US one, while a complete European copy usually costs about the same.
