Atari 2600 prices, all games & how to spot a fake

One diving game, at least seven names, and a price that depends on which one you hold.

This 1983 underwater game is best known as Skindiver, and like many European and Asian 2600 releases it was sold by several publishers under different names: Fisher Price, Sea Hunt, Skin Diver, Aquatak, Ungeheuer der Tiefe, Scuba Diver and Bi! Bi!. Little else is documented about it.

What the press said at the time

Computer Entertainer Vol. 2 No. 11February 1984Graphics ★ · Play-Action ★★

“SCUBA DIVER is a simple-minded game that might have been acceptable three years ago, but it's much too basic to appeal to today's gamer.”

— Computer Entertainer, February 1984

Computer Entertainer rated graphics first and play action second, from four symbols (excellent) to one (poor) — stars in most years, diamonds in 1986–87 — comparing each game only with other games for the same system.

Before you buy

Check which label you are looking at. Fisher Price and Sea Hunt are the inexpensive labels. Scuba Diver, both as a plain release and as a Zellers-branded one, sells for more, and the plain Scuba Diver is the costliest when complete. Because the game is the same, the label is what you are paying for, so make sure the photos match the title in the listing and ask for close shots of the label and end label. No fakes are documented. Confirm whether a copy is NTSC or PAL.
