A good-looking Sega-made platformer that critics were split on.

This is the Genesis version of Garfield: Caught in the Act, a platformer developed and published by Sega. Garfield is pulled inside the television and has to fight his way out. It reached North America in November 1995 and Europe in December 1995. Sega's team behind it was mostly the one that worked on Star Wars Arcade for the 32X.

The four Electronic Gaming Monthly reviewers praised the graphics and animation, but all but one felt the loose controls and the large number of mandatory hits outweighed them. GameFan was warmer, calling it one of the year's better Genesis action games and a solid platformer.

Alien Landscape was cut from the cartridge and turned up in Garfield: The Lost Levels, a Sega Channel broadcast.

“This is one of the games that will keep the Genesis around after the next-generation systems hit. Garfield is cool but sometimes cheap.”

— Electronic Gaming Monthly, November 1995

“The tat cat himself is well animated and has the perfect comic book look. The control is solid but the music is forgettable.”

— Diehard GameFan, January 1996

Before you buy

Among US carts it sits about at the middle, while the European cart usually costs much more than the US one, loose or complete. Sega Retro lists the game as using the six-button pad. A complete US copy means the case, cartridge and manual.
