About Granada
Granada is a free-roaming scrolling shooter. You control the titular maneuver cepter Granada as you make your way through each stage, destroying the enemy's weapons. You have a map that tells you where your targets are on the stage, and once all the targets have been destroyed a large boss enemy appears which must also be destroyed. You are equipped with a standard cannon, as well as a more powerful blaster that will actually push your machine backwards with the recoil. There are also assist pickups which will follow you and reflect any shots you fire at it toward the nearest enemies.

A tough, original top-down tank shooter that Mega Drive owners tended to like, and a US cart priced well above the middle.
Granada is a shooter in which you pilot a heavily armed tank, from Wolf Team, who first made it for the Japanese X68000 computer. The Genesis version came out in Japan on 16 November 1990 and in North America later in 1990, where Renovation Products published it. It differs from the computer original in several ways: the Genesis port adds a seventh level and runs at a higher frame rate, though it suffers more slowdown, and it has a smaller color palette and uses three buttons instead of two.
Mean Machines called it a really original and challenging blaster that suits fans of difficult, fast-action games, though not an absolute must. Sega Pro, in September 1994, found the top-down view a novel touch and the game addictive.

“Granada X doesn't rank as an absolute must, but if you're a fan of difficult-to-complete, fast-action games, check this out.”
“But persevere with it and youll find yourself getting drawn into the action.”
“First impressions of this overhead-scrolling tank-based shoot 'em up aren't very good. The graphics are pretty basic and the sound isn't all that hot. But persevere with it and you'll find yourself getting drawn into the action. It's certainly not a priority purchase, but if you're looking for an original shoot 'em up and have got all the best ones, give this a”

Before you buy
Among US carts it sits well above the middle. The Japanese cart usually costs noticeably less than the US one, but its cartridge has a different shape and fits a Western console only with an adapter or after removing two plastic tabs in its slot. A complete US copy means the case, cartridge and manual.
