A well-animated if easy beach platformer, worth a look and no more.
Greendog: The Beached Surfer Dude! is a platformer made by Interactive Designs and published by Sega. It reached North America in 1992 and Europe on 7 October 1992. A surfer wipes out, finds a gold pendant around his neck and sets out on a quest for the Surfboard of the Ancients. A Game Gear version followed separately.
Electronic Games praised the well-animated figure work and clever sound effects and called it moderately challenging. GameFan thought it fun and worth owning between the big titles, naming the graphics, the Jamaican-style tunes and the skateboard sections. Sega Pro, looking back later, found it far too easy.

“Greendog is among the new generation of Genesis games. The graphics are way ahead of earlier games. Genesis owners will be dancing in the streets.”
“It might look and sound great, but sadly Green Dog is lacking two very important details - playability and challenge.”
“A potentially great idea, but it’s not just varied or challenging enough. And where's the surfing?”
“Sega's newest hero stars in a superb looking, but ultimately dull platform game which suffers from a lack of variety and few original features. It's also far too easy, and platform fans should crack it within a day or so.”
How the Sega Genesis version differs
Sega Pro scored the Mega Drive game 80%, calling it well animated but far too easy and wishing for a difficulty setting.
Retro Gamer's Ashley Day called it a clone of Pitfall! with poor character design, though not a particularly bad game.
