A late Atari Corp movie tie-in that is nothing like the 2600 game, and by reports the last cartridge released for the 5200.

Atari made two different Gremlins games, and the 5200 one is substantially different from the 2600 cartridge. AtariAge credits John Seghers as programmer, Courtney Granner for graphics and Robert Vieira for sound. Computer Entertainer announced a film tie-in for the 2600, 5200 and computers in 1984 and listed the 5200 title for the third quarter of 1984, but the library lists it at 1986, from Atari Corp, and Wikipedia calls it the final game released for the 5200.

Little is documented about how it was received on the 5200. It matters mostly as the end of the system's life.

How it was made

AtariAge credits John Seghers as programmer, Courtney Granner for graphics and Robert Vieira for sound. Atari Corp published the cartridge in 1986.

What the press said at the time

“Gremlins is a rare find for action lovers, requiring split-second decision-making and skillful swordplay to survive. Add to that an outstanding theme song and graphics, plus more than twenty-five different screens, and the end result is one of the best games ever made for the 5200.”

— Electronic Games, November 1984

How the Atari 5200 version differs

Atari made a substantially different Gremlins game for the 5200 than the one it made for the Atari 2600.

Gremlins was the final game released for the 5200.

Electronic Games said the 5200 game has more than twenty-five screens and is one of the best ever made for the system.

Before you buy

Low to medium risk. It is a Silver 2 style label on which the game's title does not appear, so a title-less label is correct, but that also makes a swap easy; no fake has been documented. It is a late release that AtariAge rates Scarce+, and it supports one or two players. Test the controllers and ask for photos of the label.
