A helicopter combat sim squeezed onto the Mega Drive, and a cheap European cart.
Gunship is the Mega Drive version of the helicopter combat simulation in which you fly an AH-64 Apache on missions against enemy targets while protecting friendly forces. The Mega Drive game was made by Probe Software and published by U.S. Gold, and it came out in Europe in November 1993. Sega Pro described it in a preview as a chopper sim converted from other formats.
What the press said at the time
“This release is just too tiresome and repetitive. If you want a decent alternativě look no furthei than F- 15 Strike Ěagle //.”
How the Sega Genesis version differs
The Mega Drive port, by U.S. Gold and released only in Europe in 1993, differed from the other versions by adding arcade-style gameplay and horizontal shoot 'em up stages.
Sega Pro rated it 49%, calling it a below-average helicopter adventure with arcade missions that lack depth and challenge.

- Commodore 64. Info gave the Commodore 64 version five stars out of five, calling it the best combat flight simulator ever released for an 8-bit computer.
- Commodore 64. Gunship was MicroProse's third best-selling Commodore game as of late 1987.
Before you buy
Among European-only carts it sits below the middle, so it is cheap to buy. Check the listing is the Mega Drive cartridge, and that the manual is included, since a flight sim is hard to play without it.
