A stat-heavy Accolade baseball sim that critics split on, and an inexpensive cart.

Hardball '95 is an Accolade baseball game developed by Cygnus Multimedia Productions and released in North America in June 1995. Next Generation gave it two stars out of five, saying simulation fans would love the stats but that the poor gameplay quickly removes any idea of playing out a whole season.

GamePro's sports experts nonetheless included it in their list of favorite 16-bit sports titles in 1996.

How the Sega Genesis version differs

Next Generation rated the Genesis version two stars out of five, saying sim fanatics would love the stats but the gameplay was poor.

An Electronic Games ad promoted the Genesis game's 700 MLBPA players with 1994 stats and detailed stadiums.

Also on other platforms

MS-DOS · PlayStation

  • MS-DOS. Next Generation gave the MS-DOS version three stars out of five, calling it good and solid.
  • PlayStation. Next Generation gave the PlayStation conversion two stars out of five, calling it best viewed as a strict statistical simulation.

Before you buy

Among US carts it sits below the middle. The cartridge saves to a battery inside it, so check that a save holds; a replaced battery is a normal repair and not a sign of a fake.
