A rough-and-tumble cartoon hockey cart that Sega Pro disliked, priced right at the middle.
Hit the Ice is Taito's cartoonish three-a-side hockey game, which began in the arcade in 1990. Aisystem Tokyo developed the Genesis version, and Taito published it in North America in 1992.
Sega Pro was unimpressed by the Mega Drive version. It said play was slower than the arcade, the players clumsy to direct and the sprites inclined to collide, a big disappointment despite the league mode and two-player option.
What the press said at the time
“Hit the Ice is extremely fun, especially head to head. It’s not just hockey, it’s two on two fighting hockey.”
“Hit The Ice is the Andy Dyer of the school hockey squad. Get the message?”
How the Sega Genesis version differs
Sega Pro scored the Mega Drive conversion 42%, saying the rip-roaring sound survived but the gameplay lets the conversion down.

Before you buy
Among US carts it sits about at the median. It came out in North America only, so a US copy is the one to buy. Check that a listing is the Genesis cartridge and not the SNES, Game Boy or PC Engine game.
