Minimum bet is $1 and maximum is $499 at the BlackJack table, whereas over on the 5-Card Stud Poker table the sky is the limit. Up to 4 people can play simultaneously, or if you're a little shy you can always go one-on-one with the dealer. A two-in-one casino cartridge for up to four players, notable for the keypad overlay it needs and its well-known name.

Coleco published Ken Uston Blackjack/Poker in June 1983, pairing the two card games for one to four players. Computer Entertainer reviewed it in its ColecoVision section and liked the opening: sprightly music and a suave dealer it said looked like Clark Gable as Rhett Butler.

The blackjack follows fairly standard rules, with a purse and betting limits for each player, and it pays a five-card Charlie, a convention Computer Entertainer called seldom used in the United States. It is one of the games that came with a keypad overlay.

What the press said at the time

Computer Entertainer Vol. 2 No. 4July 1983Graphics ★★★ · Play-Action ★★½
Electronic Fun with Computers & Games Vol. 1 No. 12October 19834 of 4 joysticks

“While the Blackjack game is fairly good, at least for beginners, the Five-Card Stud Poker portion is less interesting. … Unless you're a rank beginner, the whole cartridge is no big deal.”

— Computer Entertainer, July 1983

“Score one royal flush for Coleco, then, because Ken Uston’s Blackjack/Poker is a dandy.”

— Electronic Fun with Computers & Games, October 1983

Computer Entertainer rated graphics first and play action second, from four symbols (excellent) to one (poor) — diamonds through early 1987, stars after — comparing each game only with other games for the same system. Electronic Fun rated games out of four joysticks.

Before you buy

Keypad overlay game: Coleco's original overlays come as a pair, one per controller, each printed with a 1982 Coleco Industries copyright, so a complete copy has both. Reproduction overlays exist if yours are missing. Standard controller only. The box and manual carry much of a complete copy's value.
