About Kikou Seiki Unitron

The game takes place 400 years after Biomotor Unitron. Kikou Seiki Unitron plays similar to Biomotor Unitron with top down dungeons and menu-based combat. The game requires the player to upgrade their unitron robot with various weapons and accessories to compete against various enemies within the dungeon areas. Using a link cable two players can pit their unitrons against each other in a head-to-head battle.

The Japan-only sequel to Biomotor Unitron, and the one that finally let two players fight.

Kikou Seiki Unitron is Biomotor Unitron 2 in all but name — the same mech-building dungeon RPG, expanded. Its predecessor came out in English; this did not, which is a genuine loss given how well the first one was received.

The most concrete improvement is the link cable. The first game could only trade parts between two consoles, with no battle mode at all; this one trades AND fights. If the original's link felt like a missed opportunity, this is the fix.

Before you buy

An RPG, so verify the cartridge's own save battery survives a power cycle before paying. Sold under both Kikou Seiki Unitron and Biomotor Unitron 2 depending on the database — the same game either way, and one of the more affordable interesting Japanese cartridges.
