The monochrome original that R-2 replaced within months — and one of only three 1998 games never remade in colour.

R-1 launched the monochrome Neo Geo Pocket in October 1998 and was superseded inside six months by King of Fighters R-2 on the Color. Unlike most of the 1998 line-up it never got a Color remake, so it is a genuinely distinct thing to own rather than an inferior draft of a game you can buy in better form.
