A modest fishing game for the Genesis that did not reach Europe, and is cheap on both US and Japanese carts.

King Salmon is a fishing game developed by Hot-B and published in North America by Vic Tokai. It came out there in July 1992 and in Japan on 26 September 1992. A planned European release was cancelled, and a British reader once wrote to Mean Machines Sega asking where to find a copy.

What the press said at the time

“I can't seriously recommend this game, because a fishing game just won't appeal to many people and I certainly wouldn't buy it, but I was pleasantly surprised and did enjoy it. This is about as good as a fishing game can get.”

— MegaTech, June 1993

Before you buy

Among US carts it sits below the middle, and the risk of a fake is low. The Japanese cart usually costs about the same loose and noticeably more when complete, and it has a different cartridge shape from a Western Genesis cart. A complete US copy means the case, cartridge and manual.
