Atari's 2600-only Krull movie game, an ambitious film adaptation that is cheap loose.

Krull is an adventure game for the Atari 2600 based on the 1983 film. Dave Staugas wrote it, with art by Jerome Domurat, and Atari released it in November 1983. Staugas later ported Millipede to the 2600.

Gottlieb also made a Krull arcade shooter the same year, but it has nothing in common with this cartridge beyond the license.

How it was made

Written by Dave Staugas, with artwork by Jerome Domurat. Released by Atari in November 1983.

What the press said at the time

Computer Entertainer Vol. 2 No. 10January 1984Graphics ★★★ · Play-Action ★★★

“For those gamers who have long ago abandoned the idea of coin-op translations for the 2600 having any merit whatsoever, Atari's excellent adaptation of Krull should help dispel that cynical outlook. … Krull is a delightful surprise … Highly recommended!”

— Electronic Games, October 1984

“This is definitely a better effort than the last Atari game based on a movie, E.T.! Graphics are nicely done, particularly the Widow of the Web screen.”

— Computer Entertainer, January 1984

Computer Entertainer rated graphics first and play action second, from four symbols (excellent) to one (poor) — stars in most years, diamonds in 1986–87 — comparing each game only with other games for the same system.

Before you buy

Low risk. Loose carts are inexpensive. Boxed copies cost a few times more and sealed copies far more, so check the box carefully if buying complete. Don't confuse this with the unrelated Gottlieb arcade game.
