About Kyuukai Douchuuki

Kyuukai Douchuuki is a 1990 arcade baseball game by Namco which they ported to the Sega Mega Drive in 1991. Neither version left Japan. The game is a generic baseball game where you are only in control of the pitcher and batter; once the batter hits the ball, you can only watch what your team does. When batting, the D-pad moves around and C swings. When pitching, Left and Right move around and some amount of time holding the C button appears to pitch. It is a spin-off of Shadowland (Youkai Douchuki).

A colorful, quirky Namco baseball game that divided critics, and a cheap Japan-only cart.

Kyukai Dochuki is a baseball game from Namco, a spin-off of Yokai Dochuki. Its Mega Drive version came out in Japan on 12 July 1991, converting a 1990 Namco arcade game. Critics often compared it with Namco's own Family Stadium games.

Mega Drive Fan thought its settings and character designs made it stand out among Mega Drive baseball games, and Mega Drive magazine praised its open stadiums, responsive controls and cute characters. The 2004 book Mega Drive Encyclopedia liked its play and style. Others were cooler: Famitsu felt it was not as refined as Namco's other console sports games, and Mega Drive Fan found it dated, with limited modes.

How the Sega Genesis version differs

The Mega Drive conversion was released in Japan on July 12, 1991, and drew mostly mixed to positive reviews, often compared to Namco's Family Stadium series.

Beep! Mega Drive praised the more open stadiums compared with Family Stadium and its responsive controls and cute characters.

The 2004 book Mega Drive Encyclopedia found the game superior to most other Mega Drive sports games.

Before you buy

Among Japan-only carts it sits below the middle. Japanese cartridges have a different shape and do not fit a Western console without an adapter or removing two plastic tabs in its slot.
