A rushed movie tie-in beat-'em-up that critics have not been kind to, and a middling cart to own.

Last Action Hero is a side-scrolling beat-'em-up based on the 1993 film, developed by Bits Studios and published by Sony Imagesoft. This Genesis version came out in North America on 26 January 1994, the day of the film's home video release, with a strict time limit on each level.

Brett Alan Weiss of AllGame later criticized the Genesis version heavily, believing it was rushed through development to capitalize on the film.

How the Sega Genesis version differs

In the Super NES and Genesis versions players face a strict time limit to defeat each level.

Unlike the NES, Game Boy and Game Gear versions, the Genesis game includes the climactic showdown with Mr. Benedict.

None of the versions, Genesis included, feature guns or any other weapons.
