A metal-soundtracked shooter port that critics rated a notch below the TurboDuo original.
This is the Sega CD version of Lords of Thunder, which began on the TurboDuo; Hudson Soft and Eleven handled the Sega CD port, published by Sega and Virgin Interactive Entertainment. It came out in 1995 in both North America and Europe. You collect gems to buy bigger guns and better armor, which Game Players described as a shooter that thinks it is an RPG, and praised the metal soundtrack.
Reviews of this version were mixed. GameFan's three reviewers still thought it a good shooter but disliked the washed-out colors, re-recorded cutscenes and easier difficulty compared with the TurboDuo game. GamePro called it a fairly close port and a welcome addition because traditional shooters are few on the Sega CD.

| Game Players Issue 75 | September 1995 | 64% |
“The game has its moments, but you've seen them, and played them through hundreds of times before as well. Go away!”
“Here's a shooter that thinks it’s an RPG. Or is it an RPG that thinks”

Before you buy
The loose disc sits well above the middle among North American Sega CD games, and the complete European copy costs about the same as the US one. Copies change hands infrequently, so a price rests on few sales. Ask for photos of the disc's printed side, its data side and the inner ring, and check that the title and catalogue number on the disc match the case. The US disc suits a North American Sega CD and the European disc a European Mega-CD.
