About Madou Monogatari 1-2-3

Madou Monogatari 1-2-3 consists of three separate adventures, all of which star young magician Arle Nadja. Billed as a "Magical Voice Role Playing Game", Madou Monogatari 1-2-3 combines diverse, colorful monster design with a then-unusual amount of voice work. The game is also notable for a near-complete lack of numerical stats, instead portraying health, damage, and magic capacity using text cues and Arle's face portrait.

A late Compile role-playing game, Japan only, and a pricey Mega Drive cart.

Madō Monogatari I is a role-playing game from Compile, released in Japan on 22 March 1996. It is a later revision of the Game Gear version, Madō Monogatari I: Mittsu no Madō-kyū, which is based on the original MSX and PC-98 versions, and it borrows heavily from the PC Engine version. It is counted as the last official Mega Drive game released in Japan.

Before you buy

It came out only in Japan, and among Japan-only carts it sits above the middle, so ask for a photo of the board before paying. A Japanese cartridge is a different shape and fits a Western console only with an adapter or after removing two plastic tabs in its slot. The page lists a save battery that matters in some modes, so check that a save holds; a replaced battery is a normal repair, not a sign of a fake.
