An easygoing Namco platformer that is a forgiving pick for newcomers and costs a bit above the US middle.

Marvel Land is a Namco platformer that came to the Genesis from the arcade; the Japanese Mega Drive release was on 28 June 1991, with North America following in 1991. In Europe, in August 1992, it was retitled Talmit's Adventure. The Genesis version even appeared as a Video Challenge on the Nickelodeon game show Nick Arcade.

Video Games & Computer Entertainment in October 1991 found it easier than a typical Genesis game and apparently designed for novices, with graphics well below 16-bit par; it did not recommend it to Genesis aficionados. Mean Machines Sega, reviewing it as Talmit's Adventure, called it a huge, sprawling platformer with few original features but playable and fun.

What the press said at the time

Mean Machines Sega Issue 3December 199283%

“It’s not recommended for Genesis aficionados (the game screen graphics are way below 16-bit par), but Marvel Land should be a nice addition to those accustomed more to NES material than the typical Genesis fare.”

— Video Games & Computer Entertainment, October 1991

“A huge, sprawling platform game with loads of lev els. Although original features are few and far between, it's a playable, fun game which should appeal to fans of the genre. Look out for the game under its Japanese pseudonym, Marvel Land.”

— Mean Machines Sega, December 1992

How the Sega Genesis version differs

The game was ported to the Mega Drive in 1991, with the European version renamed Talmit's Adventure.

Before you buy

Among US carts it sits above the middle. The European Talmit's Adventure cart usually costs much less than the US one, and the Japanese cart usually costs less loose and about the same complete, with a different cartridge shape. A complete US copy means the case, cartridge and manual.
