About M*A*S*H
You are Hawkeye Pierce, Chief Medical Surgeon of the 4077th MASH. Your responsibilities include rescuing injured men from the battlefield, performing surgery in the operating room, or, in an alternative game, picking up Colonel Potter's skydiving medics. You pilot your chopper low through the trees, avoiding shells fired at you from a North Korean tank. After picking up the medics or wounded and rushing them back to the hospital, the pressure really starts to get heavy. Time is running out for the injured men and you must operate. You have to work fast. You are competing with your fellow surgeons, either B.J. Hunnicut, Trapper John McIntyre or Frank Burns.

Doug Neubauer's licensed M*A*S*H game is a 2600 original, cheap loose, with a T-shirt bundle worth a look.
M*A*S*H is an action game based on the film, designed and programmed by Doug Neubauer for the 2600 and published by Fox Video Games in April 1983. It started on the 2600, and ports to other systems followed.
Neubauer went on to make Solaris and Radar Lock for Atari.
What the press said at the time
| Computer Entertainer Vol. 2 No. 3 | June 1983 | Graphics ★★ · Play-Action ★½ |
| Electronic Fun with Computers & Games Vol. 1 No. 10 | August 1983 | 3½ joysticks |
“The graphics of the Atari 2600-compatible game are blocky and primitive, especially in the operating room screen. … We found game play lacking in any qualities that would keep kids or adults interested in more than a few casual run-throughs.”
“That said and social responsibility aside, this is a terrific game. There are four different games for one or two players and they are actually different.”
“M*A*S*H is a nice enough game to play, but it can't exactly be called startlingly innovative.”
Computer Entertainer rated graphics first and play action second, from four symbols (excellent) to one (poor) — stars in most years, diamonds in 1986–87 — comparing each game only with other games for the same system. Electronic Fun rated games out of four joysticks.

- TI-99/4A. Works with the speech synthesizer peripheral, so characters sometimes speak lines aloud, such as "butterfingers."
Worth knowing
- Price halved, 1983. In July 1983 the cartridge was cut from $29.95 to $14.95, with the cut blamed on "the current market glut of VCS-compatible games".
- Three designs commissioned. Video Games Player's November 1983 gossip column reported: "Fox supposedly commissioned three different companies to design them a MASH game, then they picked the one they liked best".
Before you buy
Low risk. Check which version you are looking at. The standard cart is common and inexpensive. A T-shirt bundle variant is priced separately and costs more, especially sealed, so make sure the shirt is actually included and matches the bundle before paying for it. No reproductions are documented.
