About Master of Weapon

An entire week of nuclear war on Earth destroys its global environment. The survivors of the war gather their strength and resources in an attempt to bring Earth back to the way it was. Using a super computer called God System, the survivors start their first step in rebuilding Earth by having the God System create machines capable cleaning and reconstructing much of what has been lost from the war. However, without warning, a mysterious mutant entity known as "N" takes over the God System; creating three strange guardian statues based on Greek mythological figures, N manipulates the God System's machines and programs in order to attack mankind. The survivors create an artificial human called Yukiwo – built to harness perfect dexterity and strength – as well as a super-powered jet for him to pilot in order to reclaim Earth from N.

A Mega Drive port of Taito's vertical arcade shooter that stayed in Japan and costs more than most Japanese carts.

Master of Weapon is a vertically scrolling shooter that Taito released in arcades in 1989. The Mega Drive port, developed by KID and published by Taito, came out only in Japan, on 27 September 1991.

Sega Pro, reviewing an import copy, called it a playable enough vertically scrolling shoot-'em-up.

How the Sega Genesis version differs

Sega Pro scored the Japanese import 72%, saying it is playable enough and scrolls fast but would be completed too soon.

The Mega Drive port was released in 1991 exclusively in Japan.

Before you buy

Among Japan-only carts it is one of the pricier ones, so it is worth checking carefully before you pay; ask for a photo of the board. A Japanese Mega Drive cart has a notch on the left and ridged edges, and a flat Western-style shell with a notch is a repro sign. Japanese carts are a different shape and do not fit a Western console without an adapter or removing two plastic tabs in its slot. A complete copy usually costs well above a loose cart.
