A bright Capcom-arcade platformer with a high US price, and a European and Japanese cart that costs less loose.

On the Genesis this game is titled Chiki Chiki Boys; the Capcom arcade game it comes from is also known as Mega Twins. Visco developed the Genesis version and Sega published it, in Japan on 16 October 1992 and in North America and Europe in 1993.

Gamefan, reviewing it in December 1992, called everything about it first rate, with excellent graphics, color, control and music. It is an action platformer about two brothers who survived the overthrow of their village and return as teenagers for revenge. You earn coins from enemies and spend them at the end of each round on weapon upgrades, health, magic spells and continues, and you can cling to walls, fight with a sword and use magic. Each level has three parts.

“Pleasant enough game with nice graphics and enjoyable action. Lacks the arcade game's two player mode which would have made it something special.”

“Pleasant enough game with nice graphics and enjoyable action. … Lacks the arcade game's two player mode which would have made it something special.”

— MegaTech, June 1993

“A conversion of the Mega-Twins coin-op in which two young lads go on a platform treasure hunt, swiping at cuddly monsters with their swords and magic weapons. Unfortunately, it lacks the arcade game's excellent two-player mode.”

— MegaTech, March 1994

“This is Mega Twins and it's far too cute and easy. Younger players may find a challenge hidden within, but this platformer offers very little.”

— Sega Pro, September 1994

How the Sega Genesis version differs

The Genesis port drops the arcade game's 2-player cooperative mode but is otherwise reported as identical to the arcade version in content and quality.

Gamefan reviewer called everything about the Genesis game first rate, praising the graphics, color, control and music, and noted that it stays true to the arcade's flying, swimming and side-scrolling scenarios.

  • PC Engine CD-ROM. The 1994 Japan-only PC Engine Super CD-ROM² port has enhanced versions of most of the arcade soundtrack in CD-DA format and, unlike the Genesis port, includes multiplayer.

Before you buy

Among US carts this is one of the pricier ones, well above the middle. The European and Japanese loose carts usually cost less than the US one, but complete copies of both usually cost noticeably more. The Japanese cart has a different cartridge shape. A complete US copy means the case, cartridge and manual.
