In Melon Chan's Growth Diary the player raises and nurtures little girl Melon Chan. The games was only released in Japan and was one of the earliest titles released for the Neo Geo Pocket. The game was released for the Neo Geo Pocket and features monochrome graphics; however the Neo Geo Pocket Color is backwards compatible with the game.

Melon-chan's Growth Diary is a raising-and-caring game released in October 1998, and one of only three monochrome titles never remade in colour — the others being King of Fighters R-1 and Samurai Shodown!. It is a genuinely odd inclusion in a launch line-up otherwise built from fighting and sports games.

It is also an early sign of where SNK thought handheld audiences were: a Tamagotchi-adjacent pet game shipped on day one, two years before the same instinct produced Ganbare Neo Poke-Kun on the Color.
