About Miniature Golf

This is a computer game simulation of a miniature golf course. It attempts to refine your sense of timing and your perceptiveness in judging distance. As in a traditional miniature golf course, a variety of obstacles are placed in your path to the cup. Depending on the game that is selected, the course can be played solo, or a two player competition can be initiated.

A very early sports cartridge, cheap and simple, with a Sears label that costs more.

Tom Reuterdahl developed Miniature Golf for the Atari VCS, and Atari, Inc. published it in March 1979. It supports one player or two players taking turns. Sears sold the same game as Arcade Golf. It is on Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration.

Worth knowing

  • Early catalog cut. In May 1982 a reader asked Electronic Games why Star Ship, Space War and Miniature Golf were missing from Atari's catalog. The answer: "The games you mentioned have, alas, been pruned from the VCS line, along with Surround and Slot Machine. … The result of this videogame gardening is the first group of "collector's item" videogames."

Before you buy

Low risk; no reproductions are documented. Check which label you are looking at. The Atari Miniature Golf cart is common and cheap. Arcade Golf is the Sears Tele-Games release of the same game and costs more, particularly complete, so check that a Sears box and manual are actually included.
