About Monopoly

Based on the popular board game from Parker Brothers about acquiring real estate and earning rent from players that land on their properties. Up to 10 players can compete or computer opponents can be added on one of three difficulty settings.

Sega Master System prices, all games & how to spot a fake

A competent board-game adaptation and a cheap battery-saved cart, mostly interesting as a piece of Master System history.

This Monopoly was developed by the American studio Nexa and published by Sega, released in North America in September 1988 and in Europe in October 1988. It was made as part of a plan to adapt popular board games and raise the Master System's standing in the United States. It supports single-player and multiplayer games.

Game Freaks 365 described it as one of the first real board games programmed into a video game.

How it was made

Developed by Nexa Corporation and published by Sega.

What the press said at the time

Sega Pro Issue 22August 199379%

“Unless you've desperate to play Monopoly and never have a friend to play with, you might as well buy the actual board game”

— Mean Machines, May 1992

“Poor value for money. You couid buy the Monopoly Deluxe table-top for less and it wouid still be more fun. Iťs accurate, but whaťs the point?”

— Sega Pro, August 1993

Before you buy

The US cart is inexpensive and below the middle of the US carts when loose. The European cart is listed for more than the US one, loose and especially complete, so buy the US copy if you do not mind an American box. The look-alike risk is low. The game saves to a battery inside the cart, so check that the save holds. A replaced battery is a normal repair, not a sign of a fake.
