Mountain Madness: Super Pro Skiing on Wikipedia

Skiing is a skiing video game produced by Mattel and released for its Intellivision system in 1980. Up to six players compete individually on either a downhill or slalom course to see who can finish the fastest. For the game's initial release, Mattel obtained a license from the U.S. Ski Team and used its name and logo in the game's box art. In 1988, INTV Corporation released an enhanced version of the game entitled Mountain Madness: Super Pro Skiing.

INTV's 1988 rebuild of Mattel's skiing game with up to six players and custom courses.

INTV Corporation announced Super Pro Skiing in early 1988 as part of its Super Pro sports line, with one to six players on built-in courses or a course you design yourself. The cartridge was released as Mountain Madness: Super Pro Skiing, an update of U.S. Ski Team Skiing.

Realtime Associates and APh Technological Consulting are credited as developers. It is among the most expensive carts in the library, so buy it only if you want the late INTV sports games.

How the Intellivision version differs

INTV's enhanced remake of Mattel's Skiing raised the course count from one downhill and one slalom to 32 courses, each playable as downhill, slalom or with no gates. It can also generate a random course or let players design their own, though designs cannot be saved.

The basic game is unchanged, with up to six players and three heats. Players can now preview a course and pick their own steepness, ice, powder and bare patches were added, and the penalty for missing a gate dropped from five seconds to two.

Before you buy

INTV Corporation carts shipped without keypad overlays. Because the box and manual are hard to find, complete and sealed copies are priced far above loose, so check condition carefully.
