A European Renegade conversion from Natsume that reworks the NES version with better graphics and a new ending.

On the Master System this game is known as Renegade, and it came out in Europe in July 1993, developed by Natsume and published by Sega. It is based largely on the NES port rather than the original arcade game, with enhanced graphics and several improvements, including new death cutscenes and a revamped ending.

Mean Machines Sega previewed it as a conversion of the Taito coin-op and noted that the graphics did not look much like the original's.

How it was made

Natsume developed the Master System version, and Sega published it.

What the press said at the time

“If you want an MS game with that magic ingredient — fun! — you could do much worse than to check out Renegade. PAUL 79%”

— Sega Force, April 1993

How the Sega Master System version differs

Mean Machines Sega's preview said the graphics look little like the original coin-op's, but the gameplay and all the combat moves appear to be there.

Before you buy

This is a European cartridge, sold in Europe as Renegade. Loose it sits above the middle of the European-only games, and a complete copy costs much more than a loose one, so settle the box question first. The look-alike risk is low. Check that the manual is there, since it is the part most often missing from a complete copy.
