A weak Genesis golf game that GamePro said did not fit the cart, and a very cheap pickup.

PGA Tour 96 is an EA Sports golf game, developed by NuFX and Hitmen Productions for the Genesis. It came out in North America in November 1995 and in Europe in December 1995.

GamePro's Air Hendrix said EA Sports tried to cram its PlayStation golf game into a Genesis cart and it just did not fit. He criticized the weaker graphics, the slow screen redraw and the missing shot-planning features of earlier Genesis games in the series.

  • Super NES. GamePro rated the Super NES version a good round of golf, better than the Genesis version but unable to beat the Genesis PGA Tour Golf III because of weak audio and missing backspin and 3D terrain.
  • 3DO. GamePro found the 3DO graphics slightly grainier than the PlayStation version's, though still lifelike.
  • Game Boy. GamePro praised the Game Boy version for its good options, graphics and sounds.

Before you buy

Among US carts it sits well below the median. The European loose cart usually costs a little less than the US one, while a complete European copy usually costs slightly more. The cartridge saves to a battery inside it for some modes, so test that a save holds; a replaced battery is a normal repair and not a sign of a fake. Sega Retro lists it as working with EA's 4 Way Play.
