About Pocket Tennis

Pocket Tennis a simple tennis game with two play modes: Exhibition and Tournament. Exhibition is a single match against computer or human opponent (requires link cable). There do exist eight player characters with different skills (human player must select one of those eight characters too) and four (five in the color version) different courts. Also amount of sets per game can be selected (1, 3 or 5). Tournament is only against computer. Human player can pick his/her character but not the computer opponent. Also selection of courts and amount of sets is missing. Three games will be played: quarter and semifinals and of course the final.

The 1998 monochrome original of the tennis game, and one of the few mono titles that trades with any regularity.

Yumekobo's tennis game was a monochrome launch title in October 1998 and was remade the following year as Pocket Tennis Color. Both support two-player link play, and both are better than a launch-window sports game has any right to be.

The Color version is the one that reached the West and the one on NEOGEO POCKET COLOR SELECTION Vol. 2; this is the Japanese original.

Before you buy

Sellers list the 1998 monochrome cartridge and the 1999 Color remake under the same name constantly, and they are not worth the same — check the label for Color branding before paying either price.
